WORKSHOP 1: MAPS AND PATCHES

Nicole is working on a map quilt of the North End.
We will use this map in our workshop to teach the kids
                                          about community.

                                                            Here is the finished piece

FOAMIES

The Pet is not the only puppet in our show that will be sculpted out of foam. Also inspired by the genius creations at Big Nazo LAB, we will be making two life-sized wearable puppet versions of the characters Rose the bear and Lars the turtle.

A great lesson Nicole learned while doing her internship was that foam is uncomfortable against human skin. Therefore, it is always important to line the inside of the puppets with something nice that will be comfortable.

An interior lining can also be helpful when creating a wearable puppet, because then you have a snug-fitting base directly onto which you can sculpt any crazy thing your brain can imagine.

ONE SIZE FITS MOST

Now that we have made the controller we needed to find the right fit (the one that most people feel comfortable gripping) We made three different sizes: The Original, The Pinky Grip, and The Long Stem. We passed them around to our classmates and asked them to vote for the most comfortable grip. The results are not in but it's a close race between The Pinky Grip and The Long Stem!
